Someone in the YouTube comments said that M.I.A. did it better than Beyonce’s “Run the World” video. Both songs and videos are a new wave of female empowerment in music, and both use international themes to express that. While I think Beyonce’s version was at times controversial and felt a little detached from the actual message, M.I.A.’s just seems like a casual nod to women being bad asses all around the world. And I’m digging that.
A few other things:
1. A baby made M.I.A. hotter, which I didn’t even think was possible.
2. The cars!
3. The slow-mo effects are beautiful and interesting when paired with the scenery that’s both gritty and glamorous - the dust, the beat-up cars, the horses.
